advanced training course for teachers of all grades

... accompanying Stephan Balkenhol's exhibition "deadline"

14 May 2019 | 16.00 pm

Stephan Balkenhol's sculptures are often the subject of art lessons. Now the artist, who was born in Fritzlar, presents old and new works on the theme of "Death" at the Museum for Sepulchral Culture under the exhibition title deadline. It is the sculptor's first thematic exhibition in which, in addition to allusions to famous works of art, there are also works with strong biographical references.

The teacher training course at the Museum for Sepulchral Culture begins with an introduction to Stephan Balkenhol's work against the background of developments in 20th century fine arts and with explanations of Balkenhol's sculptural technique. It continues with a walk to works of art in public space in Kassel's inner city and to Balkenhol's "Man in the Tower", which provided discussion material for documenta 13.

In this way, the event aims to encourage participants to get to know not only selected works by one of the best-known German sculptors, but also to explore the diversity of sculptures in public space. It ends at 18:00 on the Friedrichsplatz.
